St Caprais de Bordeaux trail 22kms
MAY1st-st Caprais de Bordeaux-trail race, 22kms over hill and dale and lots of mud!
This was actually exceptionally fun! I hadnt run for four months due to stress fractures in each tibia so 3 weeks ago i started up again and finally without pain. I just went for easy runs 2-4 times a week and worked my way up to 13kkms at an ok pace. I wanted to put in a good effort before a ten day break in may and when I saw this race I though yes, this will do....Not having raced or done intervals running for a very long time I thought best to start at the back of the class warming up as i went. We raced through the bordeuax vineyards, woods, mud, sometimes on all fours palying tarzan, ice capades and more! It was slippery but fun! After 5kms I started feeling quite good and began to run like a bike race...I saw a group, joined them and tucked in letting them take me to the next group and then crossing over to that group on my own. I passed loads of women and people on the course started telling me youre 3rd woman...not to worried about a place I suddenly saw the 2nd woman and caught her. We ran together for a good 6kms encouraging eachother and trying to work together. We were told we were gaining ground on the 1st woman some 500m ahead. On a long technical descent I lost the woman i had been with and suddenly saw the 1st woman across a vineyard not that far off. we had about 2kms to go....I just started to catch her before a descent and as i crested up she was already running downhill. I kept my wits hoping to catch her on the descent but it was too late. A great race and she won by 10 seconds. I won a case of Bordeaux red which was a great gift and finally learned how to run a descente! LET GO! That was fun though painful two days later!
