As a child I loved playing the running game and Johnny tackle with the neighborhood kids, most of whom were boys....well, the boys just recently admitted to me (some 30 years later) that they used to negotiate to be on my side because I tackled too hard....
I guess this pushed me to find the best way to continue training 12 years later when I took up cycling. The first things I noticed as I started was that I had the strength but I didn't always seem to know how and when exactly to unleash it. I developed a personal strength endurance program that I would taylor to my needs each fall when 'lifting' season and off season training began. There is a huge misconception that women become masculine and too bulky when they lift weights. Not true if done properly....
Over the years Ive learned a tremendous amount via working as a personal trainer for general fitness enthusiasts, field sports (rugby, handball, soccer, ultimate frisbee) and of course cyclists!
After my own retirement I contintued training and working with a few elite athletes often trying programs on myself first and adapting the program to the athlete depending on their profiles. I have worked with regional, national, and olympic athletes and worked as director sportif for the New Zealand national women and U23 men's teams in 2005. In 2006-2007 I directed an elite men's club team in France (C.A.C. Castelsarrasin) and coached several of the men on the team.
